Partnership for Quality Medical Donations

Every year, Wyeth donates millions of dollars of pharmaceutical products to help international aid groups respond to emergency relief needs and improve global health care services. To ensure that these vital medicines are distributed equitably and efficiently, Wyeth makes most of its donations through its membership in the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD).

PQMD is a nonprofit membership association dedicated to raising the standards for medical product donations globally. PQMD aims to encourage the donation and delivery of appropriate medicines to people in need in a timely and effective manner.

Highlighted below are six members of PQMD that have received significant donations of Wyeth products in recent years — AmeriCares, Catholic Medical Mission Board, Direct Relief International, Heart to Heart International, Medical Assistance Programs International and Project HOPE.

AmeriCares

AmeriCares is a nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization that provides immediate response to emergency medical needs and supports long-term health care programs for people worldwide — irrespective of race, creed or political persuasion. Since its inception in 1982, AmeriCares has delivered more than $5 billion of relief supplies to 137 nations. While AmeriCares is recognized for by its rapid response to disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, famine and refugee crises, about 70 percent of the organization's work involves long-term relief and sustained health care services. The success of AmeriCares is built on timely response, meaningful impact, high integrity and intense passion.

Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB)

Since 1928, CMMB has served as the leading U.S.-based Catholic charity focused exclusively on international health care, particularly the well-being of women and children. In 2005, CMMB shipped $175 million in donated medicines and supplies to 51 countries. Through its medical distribution program, medical volunteers and integrated health care programs, CMMB works collaboratively to provide quality health care, without discrimination, to people in need throughout the world.

Direct Relief International

Direct Relief International provides material medical aid—including medicines, medical supplies and equipment—that strengthens in-country health efforts around the world to improve the quality of life for the most impoverished people. In 2005, Direct Relief International provided $211 million in wholesale value of aid serving 29.1 million people in 52 countries worldwide. Direct Relief International identifies competent health care providers and well-managed, locally run health care facilities throughout the developing world, who share the organization's commitment to serve the poor and victims of natural and civil disasters without regard to political affiliation, religious belief, ethnic identity or ability to pay.

Heart to Heart International

Heart to Heart International is a global humanitarian organization that puts caring hearts into action by providing opportunities to improve health and to respond to the needs of disaster victims around the world. Internationally, Heart to Heart plans special projects that emphasize the organization's ongoing humanitarian work in Asia, Eurasia and Africa. Heart to Heart also established a global alliance in which it resources medical teams, enabling them to be more effective in their operations in underserved regions of the world. In the United States, Heart to Heart works in cities across the the country to connect volunteers and much-needed supplies to agencies serving America's poor and needy.

Medical Assistance Programs (MAP) International

MAP International is a global nonprofit leader in the distribution of donated essential medicines and medical supplies. Founded in 1954, MAP International is recognized for its work in providing the right mix of high-quality FDA-approved essential medicines and medical supplies in both disaster relief and long-term health development programs. MAP International works with experienced, selected partners to place these products in clinics and hospitals where there is limited or no access to essential medicines. MAP International maintains an affirmed commitment to diversity and equal opportunity in the fulfillment of its global mission. MAP offers its services to all people, regardless of their religion, gender, race, nationality or ethnic background.

Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere)

Project HOPE was founded in 1958 to improve the quality of health services in communities across the world. The organization operated the roving hospital ship SS HOPE from 1960 to 1974, and its land-based activities in 30 countries today promote maternal and child health, fight infectious diseases, educate health professionals, develop health systems and facilities and offer humanitarian assistance. The work of Project HOPE has endured for nearly 50 years through the donation of medical services, products, and other resources by like-minded individuals and organizations. To establish sustainable improvements in its host countries, and to help their health authorities provide the care other nations are equipped to provide, Project HOPE introduces the latest treatment methods and technology, medicines and supplies.
