Rachel, Human Resources Intern

As soon as I walked into Wyeth Consumer Healthcare and noticed the culture, the people, and the professionalism, I knew I wanted to intern here. Every day, I've been excited to come to work.

At school, I discovered Wyeth through the INROADS program. I was immediately interested in the INROADS summer internship opportunities because the organization's commitment to preparing minority students for the real world impressed me. Seeing the combination of INROADS' dedication to my advancement and Wyeth's abundance of opportunities, I knew from the start that my summer was going to be highly productive and that I'd be more than a gofer.

My involvement has been high, as has been my exposure to different parts of the company. I've met with department heads and visited other divisions within Wyeth, Wyeth Consumer Healthcare's parent company. I've been asked to speak up on projects and, most importantly, my ideas have been heard.

They expected a lot from me and I think I delivered, which is exactly why I'm thrilled with my experience at Wyeth Consumer Healthcare.

I interned with the HR department and, even though I'm a Marketing and Management major, it was the perfect place to start. I've touched on nearly every aspect of the company. I now understand department roles and how Wyeth achieves its business objectives. Additionally, because of my major, they encouraged me to spend a day with Sales and a day with Marketing. Giving me that sort of exposure really shows how much they care.

When I used to think about big companies, I always envisioned impersonal, individualized work, without much contact or coworker collaboration. But not at Wyeth. Here, the environment is very team-oriented. Everyone has been very personable and interested in my work. Even as an intern, I've been amazed by how much time they've invested into my development. They are very supportive, and everyone—from my coworkers to upper management—has noticed and commented on my achievements. It may be a big company, but they are completely in touch with and proud of their employees. No one is ever overlooked.

Not only have I received hands-on experience, but also Wyeth supplements the real-world work with professional basics. Their "Lunch and Learn" program has taught me skills that are valuable for every career path. The program's topics have included Presentation Skills, Networking, Career Planning, Business Ethics, Diversity, and many others.

Heading into my junior year, I feel confident about my future in the real world. I know what to expect, what I need to develop, and what direction I want my career to head in. I also know that Wyeth Consumer Healthcare is where I want my career to take place.
