University Relations—Postdoctoral Program

The Wyeth Discovery Postdoctoral Training Program spans five biology-oriented therapeutic areas and three core science programs. The program is designed to attract highly motivated, recent PhD recipients who are interested in obtaining their postgraduate training in a dynamic pharmaceutical research environment. Our trainees pursue groundbreaking research in the biological, chemical, and technological sciences, with a strong focus on major human diseases with high unmet clinical need. Fellowship support is offered for a minimum of two years, with a third-year award, dependent on a review of research progress. Our trainees benefit from a highly collaborative environment and outstanding research facilities, which together stimulate multidisciplinary approaches to the trainees’ areas of research interest. The training program places a strong emphasis on the publication of high-impact research and on the accumulation of knowledge that helps to fuel Wyeth’s award-winning drug discovery pipeline.

Discovery Research at Wyeth offers diverse opportunities for research and career development for our postdoctoral trainees. Wyeth fellows are also provided with the unique opportunity to observe the drug discovery process as Wyeth translates groundbreaking scientific advances into tomorrow’s most innovative medicines. Wyeth Discovery is a science-driven organization that places high value on the research performed by our postdoctoral trainees. In addition to outstanding bench research experience, our program emphasizes career-building activities aimed toward preparing our trainees for productive careers as independent investigators in academia or in the pharmaceutical industry. Our fellows are offered a variety of career development experiences, including manuscript preparation, effective oral presentation skills, and exposure to highly experienced industrial scientists and mentors as well as internationally respected visiting scientists from academia and industry. Our fellows also have ample opportunities to present their research both internally and to the external scientific community.

A highlight of the training experience is the annual Wyeth Postdoc Symposium. This two-day event brings the entire postdoctoral community together for oral and poster presentations by the trainees, career development seminars, and lectures from renowned internal and external scientific leaders.
