Helping needy Americans obtain vital medicines that they cannot afford on their own has long been an essential component of Wyeth's corporate philanthropy—a priority that is even more important during difficult economic times. To accomplish that mission, the Company established the Wyeth Pharmaceutical Assistance Foundation. With the generous support of Wyeth product donations, the Foundation works with thousands of physicians and other health care providers throughout the United States to supply patients with a variety of Wyeth products free of charge.

Using a simple one-page application, licensed practitioners can obtain a supply of Protonix® (pantoprazole sodium), Effexor®XR(venlafaxine HCl), and many other Wyeth medicines for their qualified patients who do not have insurance coverage and are financially needy. There is no cost to the health care providers or patients for the products provided through this program.

The Wyeth Pharmaceutical Assistance Foundation also provides a number of specialized Patient Assistance Programs for treatments directed at medical conditions requiring more comprehensive support services. These include:

  • The Hemophilia Patient Assistance Program, for BeneFIX® Coagulation Factor IX (Recombinant) and
    ReFacto® Antihemophilic Factor (Recombinant)
  • The Wyeth Oncology Patient Assistance Program, for Mylotarg® (gemtuzumab ozogamicin for Injection) and Neumega® (oprelvekin)
  • The RapAssist® Patient Assistance Program, for Wyeth's immunosuppressant Rapamune® (sirolimus)

The continued support of these Patient Assistance Programs is the largest component of Wyeth's corporate philanthropy. Since 2000, Wyeth has donated products valued at more than $1 billion to hundreds of thousands of patients in the United States. The medicines they received had a wholesale value of approximately $250 million. In 2005, the Foundation, with the continuing support of Wyeth, significantly improved the Patient Assistance Programs by adding more user benefits for both patients and physicians.

Wyeth also has strongly supported efforts to make pharmaceuticals more accessible for all Medicare beneficiaries.
